Commissioner Shoemaker is a native of Florida. She grew up in South Daytona and then moved to Winter Park where she met her high school sweetheart, Keith. Keith was her best friend and husband and they enjoyed 42+ years together until his untimely death in October 2016.
Commissioner Shoemaker moved to Longwood in 2000 with her husband Keith and son James. Keith, was employed with the City of Longwood for 27 years as a Mechanic and Public Works Fleet Supervisor and wanted to live where he worked.
Commissioner Shoemaker has served on Longwood boards and volunteer groups. She served on the Board of Adjustments from 09/08/2003 until 12/01/2003; Parks and Recreation Advisory Board from 12/01/2003 until 01/09/2013; and Citizens on Patrol (COPs) from 2013 until 2014.
Her civic involvement over the past 25+ years has included countless Longwood and other non-profit events. These include: Central Florida Society for Historic Preservation’s, Christmas in Ye Ole Longwood, Longwood Arts and Crafts Festival, City of Longwood’s 125th Birthday Celebration, Booville, Celebrate the Season, Garage Sale for Needy Families, Fall Carnival, Haunted House, National Night Out, Night Moves Teen Dance, Rock the Park, Santa Visits Longwood, and Seminole Cultural Arts Council’s Howl for the Arts.
Commissioner Shoemaker has an associate’s degree from Seminole Community College and is enrolled to practice before the Internal Revenue Service. She has worked in the field of accounting for 40+ years and currently owns and operates an accounting and tax practice.
Commissioner Shoemaker was elected to the Longwood City Commission on November 7, 2017. She brings to Longwood her appreciation of community events, volunteer involvement, business and accounting background; and is happy and humbled to have taken the next step in her civic involvement.
