Lt. Aprile began his law enforcement career with the New York City Police Department in 1996 after attending John Jay College of Criminal Justice.  He was promoted to detective in 2001, Sergeant in 2003, and Detective Sergeant in 2007.  Additionally, Lt. Aprile held Executive Officer roles in two separate detective squads, and was the commanding officer of different units such as the Internal Affairs Records Unit, the Chief of Detectives’ Compstat and Case Analysis Unit, and the Chief of Department’s Violent Crime Patterning Unit. Lt. Aprile specialized in internal investigations, violent and property pattern crime investigations, and missing person cases.  During his service to New York City, Lt. Aprile was awarded the Excellent Police Duty Award for apprehending a wanted felon and two separate unit citations.  Lt. Aprile retired from the NYPD in April  2020 after nearly twenty-four years of service.

After relocating to Longwood, Lt. Aprile attended Equivalency of Training at Lake Technical College in Eustice, Florida, and was hired by the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office in January 2021.  Lt. Aprile was a Deputy Sheriff assigned to the Chuluota and Geneva communities before being selected for the Crime Prevention Unit, where he coordinated numerous outreach programs.  Lt. Aprile also served as an adjunct Emergency Vehicle Operations Instructor and part-time Field Training Officer. In May 2023, Lt. Aprile was awarded the ASIS International Protector’s Award for Community Policing, highlighting the creation of the “Bus Stop Buddy” initiative and engaging with the youth in Seminole County.
The Longwood Police Department recently hired Lieutenant Aprile to fill the role of Police Lieutenant, where he currently oversees the Enforcement Support Division.  The Enforcement Support Division comprises the Community Relations Unit, School Resource Program, and Citizens on Patrol.  Lt. Aprile is also the Longwood Police Department’s Public Information Officer.

Since obtaining his law enforcement certification in Florida, Lt. Aprile has completed the FDLE Speed Measurement course, Field Training Officer course, Instructor Techniques course, and Line Supervision course.

Lt. Aprile resides in Longwood with his wife, four children, and three Labrador retrievers.  He is an avid New York Giants fan and coached youth and high school football for 15 years. Lt. Aprile’s immediate future focus is to complete his bachelor’s degree.
