The 41st Annual JOY Awards

The City of Longwood congratulates all recipients of the 41st Annual JOY Awards.

At the April 19, 2021 City Commission Meeting, the recipients of the JOY (Juvenile of the Year) Awards, were presented with a certificate and were recognized for their outstanding character traits such as patriotism, enthusiasm, good behavior and attitude, attendance, willingness to follow instructions, and for having the desire for self-improvement.

Former Commissioner/Mayor, Steve Uskert, who passed away several years ago, initiated this Award.  Mr. Uskert felt very strongly regarding the continuance of this Award.  In previous years, Mr. Uskert would present each student with his or her award.

The City believes this Award is a worthwhile tradition that should continue.  These students represent the all-around, youthful "good citizens" that reside in and around the City of Longwood.

Each of the eleven (11) schools that serve the Longwood area selects one of their students to receive this award.  This year Altamonte Elementary did not wish to participate.

The Elementary Schools are Highlands Elementary, Longwood Elementary, Winter Springs Elementary, and Woodlands Elementary. The Middle Schools are Greenwood Lakes Middle, Milwee Middle, and Rock Lake Middle.  The High Schools are Lake Mary High, Winter Springs High, and Lyman High.

Congratulations to all students on their well-deserved recognition!
