On Monday, January 15th, a final agreement was reached between Balboa Realty Partners and L.A. Fitness. The site will include the razing of the old Albertsons building and the construction of a new 34,000 sq. ft. fitness center. The new L.A. Fitness site will include a pool and basketball/volleyball court, an aerobic area, fitness rooms and weight training. According to Balboa's Adam Miller, the engineering plans should be delivered in 60 to 90 days to the City and the site preparation and construction to follow immediately upon the completion of the plan approval and the release of the permits. Longwood's Economic Development Manager, Tom Krueger, shared that "with the recent announcement of L.A. Fitness and the WaterVue Apartments, a mixed use development (residential and retail) at Fairy Lake, several developers are inquiring about the surrounding parcels. We have had several residential developments, these two are just the start of several new retail developments which will be transformative for the 17-92, 434 and the Ronald Reagan corridors."
