Is the water safe to drink? Yes. The City of Longwood is in full compliance with federal and state drinking water regulations.
There has been much concern over the 1,4-dioxane chemical that was found within a small portion of Seminole County recently. Here at the City of Longwood, we would like our residents and businesses to know we strive to meet and exceed the requirements for water quality set by the Department of Environmental Protection and Environmental Protection Agency. In 2013, the City of Longwood tested for the 1,4-dioxane chemical within our wells and was nearly untraceable at <0.07 parts per billion. The City of Longwood routinely tests its source water for contaminants and some of the testing we do is not required. We do these additional tests to ensure we are able to identify any future contaminants that may arise within the source water. The City of Longwood has ordered additional 1,4-dioxane testing to further ensure the safety of our drinking water to the customers.
