GET INVOLVED & JOIN A CITY BOARD!
The City of Longwood is always looking for volunteers who want to help guide the City by serving on one of its boards or committees. If you are interested in serving, please complete the Board Appointment Application and return it to the City Clerk. You can apply online or download the form and return it by email, fax, or mail.
Land Planning Agency:
The LPA shall make recommendations regarding the City's growth management and land development regulation programs. The board may make recommendations on all matters affecting the City's physical development and shall be consulted on the comprehensive land plan.
The LPA meets on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 6:00 p.m. It has a five-member board with three-year terms.
Parks and Recreation Advisory Board:
The parks and recreation advisory board shall assist in developing plans to meet the City's present and future parks and recreational needs. The board recommends to the City Commission programs, facility requirements, parks utilization, beautification proposals, and similar recommendations to provide the City with continually updated parks, recreation, and leisure programs. After conferring with the City Manager, the board may recommend to the City Commission on budget and staffing needs.
The board meets on the 1st Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. It has a seven-member board with three-year terms.
Police Officers & Firefighter’s Pension Board:
The Police Officers' and Firefighters' Pension Board's primary duty is to oversee the administration and proper operation of the Police Officers' and Firefighters' Pension plan as regulated by F.S. Chapters 175 and 175.
The Pension Board meets quarterly at 6:00 p.m. on the first Wednesday of February, May, August, and November. It has a five-member board with four-year terms.
- 2 members are residents appointed by the City Commission
- 1 elected police officer member of the pension plan
- 1 elected firefighter member of the pension plan
- 5th member is selected by the other 4 members and ratified by the City Commission
In addition to the standing boards, ad hoc committees may convene from time to time, i.e., Charter Review.
Charter Advisory Committee:
The City Commission shall, from time to time and not less than every three (3) years, appoint a Charter Advisory Committee to review the Charter of the City and, if deemed appropriate to the interest of the residents of Longwood, recommendations shall be submitted to the Commission for proposed amendments or revisions to the Charter. The Advisory Committee shall consist of one (1) member representing each Commission District and continue in existence for a period of one (1) year.
