The City of Longwood Fire Department offers several programs and services to the community. The following are services offered by the Fire Department that aim to improve the health and safety of the community:
Blood Pressure Checks: The Fire Department will perform blood pressure checks free of cost at both Fire Station 15 and Fire Station 17. If you are interested in having your blood pressure checked, you can stop by either location, any of the 7 days of the week, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
Car Seat Fittings: Safe Kids Seminole County Coalition, in cooperation with cities in the county, provide car seat fittings for parents. If you have a car seat and would like to have it properly fitted in your car, you can attend one of the following sessions at the City of Longwood Police Department:
January 9th, February 6th, March 5th, April 2nd, May 7th, June 4 2008 (8:30am-10:30am).

Citizen CPR Training: The City of Longwood Fire Department offers Citizen CPR Training to all members of the community. During this six-hour training, each trainee receives a book and a mask. The book includes information regarding First Aid, CPR, and AED. There is a written test at the end of the course and, upon successful completion the trainee receives a certificate. The fee for this class is $13 and is offered several times a year. For more information, please contact Phyllis Williams at (407) 260-3486.

EMS or Fire Stand-by: This service is usually offered during Lyman High football games and special events. There is a schedule fee for this service. For more information please contact Fire Marshal Don Castner at (407) 260-3460.
Kids Safe Place Program: This program aims to protect the children in our community by offering a safe haven for abused or abandoned children. When a child arrives at either Fire Station 15 or Fire Station 17, the Fire Department will contact a responder for the Kids Safe Program. Sharps Containers: Sharps containers are containers used to dispose of hazardous materials such as syringes. The Longwood Fire Department will collect these 7 days a week between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. at both Fire Station 15 and Fire Station 17.
Smoke Detector Program: In an effort to make all homes safe, the Longwood Fire Department offers this service to families in need. The Fire Department will provide and install smoke detectors free of charge to those who qualify. For more information please contact Fire Marshal Don Castner at (407) 260-3460.

The Longwood Fire Department also offers programs and services to help educate the community about fire prevention as well as the duties performed by firefighters.
Daycare Visits: This program promotes fire safety and awareness to children in daycares. The visit may include a fire engine, a rescue truck, and personnel to discuss fire safety and educational topics with hands on demonstrations. DUI Demonstrations at Lyman High School: In an effort to educate our youth about the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol, the City of Longwood and Seminole County perform mock DUI Demonstration. During these demonstrations, the Longwood Fire Department participates in a mock DUI auto accident with injuries. This takes place on the football field and usually includes Air Care to transport an “injured” patient. Students can also witness a vehicle extrication. * This year, the DUI Demonstration will be held on November 15, 2007 at 9:45 a.m. at Lyman High School. Please note that this is an event for the school and not open to the public.
Fire Station Tours: Tours are offered 7 days a week by appointment only. If you are interested in touring our Fire Station, please call Fire Marshal Don Castner at (407) 260-3460 to make an appointment.
Freddie the Fire Truck: Freddie the Fire Truck is a small remote control fire engine. He talks to kids and sprays water on them. The Longwood Fire Department uses Freddie for several of its public relations events. For more information regarding Freddie, please contact Fire Marshal Don Castner at (407) 260-3460.
The Longwood Fire Department also participates in events sponsored by the City. Some of these events include National Night Out and the Longwood Arts Festival. During these events, the Longwood Fire Department will set up a table or booth where they give out handouts and have trucks available for public viewing. Firefighters are there to show people the different features of the vehicles and children can spend time learning about fire safety. At some of these events, such as the Longwood Arts Festival, the Fire Department offers free blood pressure checks at their booths. Make sure to stop by when we have these events so your kids can get up close to the vehicles and personnel.

* Fire Prevention Week*
This year, the Longwood Fire Department will be visiting several schools and Daycares to talk about fire safety. The Fire Department will show a fire engine and rescue vehicle and give out handouts. During this week, we anticipate reaching approximately 1000 children. The schedule for visits is as follows:

Fundraisers to Help the Community: The Longwood Fire Department raised $2,800 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association during the 2007 Fill-the-Boot Campaign. Firefighters from the Longwood Fire Department used their boots to collect donations for the MDA at intersections.
