Community Services Department

The Community Services Department provides planning, engineering, building, and recreation services to the City. Department staff interact daily with residents, developers, business owners, and other governmental agencies. From major street paving projects and public park renovations to the installation of sheds and fences on private property, Community Services plays a roll in all infrastructure and development decisions in the City.

The Community Services Department consists of three divisions with links on the left side of the page:

The Community Development Division is responsible for planning, development review, and engineering.

The Building Division is responsible for building permits and inspections.

The Recreation Division is responsible for creating and managing City events and programs.

Longwood Hamlet

The Community Services Department is in the process of creating a new set of development guidelines that will encourage sustainable mixed use development throughout the City. The concept is being called "The Longwood Hamlet" in recognition of the areas architectural heritage stretching back to the northeastern United States and Victorian England. Once the design guidelines are completed, developers in key areas of the City will have the option to build according to these "old world meets new world" standards.
