City Budget

The Budget for Fiscal Year 2005-2006 is presented in a format that provides the City Commission, residents of Longwood, and the City staff with a more comprehensive, informative and understandable Budget document.

 

This Budget document includes an Budget Summary Section that summarizes information for the total City by providing a breakdown by Source, Category and Function, with graphs to assist in the visual presentation.

 

Designed to meet the needs of a broad spectrum of readers, this Budget document is organized into six major sections, Budget Summary, General Fund, Public Utilities Fund, Other Funds, Capital Improvement Program, and Glossary as described in the Introduction.

Special Award Granted to Finance Department

(Chicago)--The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting has been awarded to the City of Longwood by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR). The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

 

An Award of Financial Reporting Achievement has been awarded to the individual, designated by the government as primarily responsible for preparing the award-winning CAFR. This has been presented to:

 

Carol Rogers, CPA, Financial Services Director

 

The CAFR has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program including demonstrating a constructive "spirit of full disclosure" to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR.

 

The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 16,000 government finance professionals with offices in Chicago, IL, and Washington, D.C.

 
Comprehensive Annual Financial Report

The CAFR’s role is to assist in making economic, social and political decisions and to assist in assessing accountability to the citizenry by:

 

  • Comparing actual financial results with the legally adopted budget, where appropriate;

     

  • Assessing financial condition and results of operations;

     

  • Assisting in determining compliance with finance related laws, rules and regulations; and

     

  • Assisting in evaluation of the efficiency and effectiveness of City operations.

     

    Responsibility for both the accuracy of the presented data and the completeness and fairness of the presentation, including all disclosures, rests with the management of the City.

     

    We believe the data, as presented, is accurate in all material respects; that it is presented on a manner designed to fairly present the financial position and results of operations of the City; and that all disclosures necessary to enable the reader to gain an understanding of the City’s financial activity have been included.
