Starting A Business In Longwood

To conduct business in the City of Longwood, all businesses must first obtain an local business tax receipt issued by Financial Services. This is a tax for the privilege of engaging in business, trade, or occupation within our city.

The requirements for obtaining a local business tax receipt varies with each profession. Some businesses necessitate a State license, and we require a copy of this license prior to the issuance of the local business tax receipt. In addition, we collect fees for the Seminole County local business tax as well.

The businesses within the city limits of Longwood do not have to make a seperate trip to the Seminole County Tax Collector's office to obtain their County local business tax receipt.  The City of Longwood entered into an Interlocal Agreement with the Seminole County Tax Collector to issue both city and county local business tax.  The fee for each business varies.

The Finance Director maintains a complete listing of all businesses in the city limits of Longwood and can answer inquiries regarding these businesses. Any complaints concerning business practices, however, should be addressed, if they are licensed by the state, to the board that regulates them.  For all other businesses please contact the Better Business Bureau at (407) 621-3300 or you may visit their web site at www.bbb.org.
