Stormwater Management
In Central Florida, many cities struggle with stormwater management and maintenance problems. The City of Longwood seeks to prevent many common problems before they begin with a proactive approach to both the design and maintenance of the stormwater management system.
Strict standards are in place to require privately owned stormwater management systems to meet the same standards they were designed to meet. To read the City's stormwater ordinance, click here.
Stormwater and Flooding Concerns
The Stormwater facilities are also installed and maintained by the Public Works Department. Any complaints about flooding or improper drainage please notify the Public Works Office (407) 831-6175
St. Johns WMD Watershed Action Volunteers Program
Many who love Florida’s natural splendor — its abundant lakes and life-filled waterways — feel a sense of kinship to it. Floridians are often caught saying things like “my lake” and “our river” when talking about their state’s water resources.
This is why the St. Johns River Water Management District established the WAV Program and has given hundreds of individuals the opportunity to personally help their communities and protect these vital resources.

Inlet Marking Project
The City of Longwood Public Works Department has begun placing new markers on drainage inlets throughout the City. These markers are intended to remind everyone that the materials that enter the City's stormwater system through inlets end up in our local water bodies. To help protect our lakes, please make sure to "let only rain down the drain."
How can I help improve stormwater quality?
Stormwater runoff from our streets, homes, and businesses goes through a system of retention and treatment structures and is released into the natural environment. Check out this brochure to learn how you can help to keep dangerous pollutants out of our lakes and drinking water.
