The Longwood City Clerk is Sarah M. Mirus, MMC, MBA

    Welcome to the Office of the City Clerk. The City Clerk’s Office is a courteous, service-oriented team of professionals working in partnership with the community, commission and employees. We are committed to providing efficient service in a responsive and expeditious manner, and maintaining the integrity of all commission actions through the Longwood City Code, policy manual, minutes, and resolutions. The City Clerk’s Office is dedicated to continuing the preservation of the City’s history.

Sarah M. Mirus, MMC, MBA

    Sarah Mirus began her employment with the City of Longwood on December 4, 2001.  She began her career as the Administrative Secretary to the City Clerk and on October 1, 2002 was promoted to the Deputy City Clerk position.  On January 20, 2003, she received the Employee of the Year for the City Hall Complex.  She became the City Clerk for the City of Longwood on March 1, 2003. 

 

    Ms. Mirus is a Member of the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC), the Florida Association of City Clerks (FACC), the Florida Records Management Association (FRMA), and the National Notary Association.   She received her Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) Certification from IIMC on March 31, 2006 and received her Master Municipal Clerk (MMC) Certification on April 17, 2009. 

  

    Ms. Mirus has served on numerous FACC Committees, including the 2004-2005 and 2005-2006 Institute Committee.  In 2007-2008, she was a Member of the Resolutions Committee, Goals Committee, and Sponsor and Exhibitors Committee.  In 2008-2009, she was the Chair of the Goals Committee and was Vice Chair of the Institute Committee in 2006-2007.  She served in 2009-2010 as the Central East District Director and is currently serving as the 2010-2011 Central East District Director.   

  

    Ms. Mirus attended Valencia Community College, graduating with an Associate’s Degree in December 2001.  She broadened her education at Rollins College receiving a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Organizational Communication in December of 2003.  She completed her Master’s Degree in Business Administration in June of 2008 with a concentration in Public Administration at Keller Graduate School of Management of DeVry University.

Duties & Responsibilities of the City Clerk's Office

 

  • Custodian of the City Seal 
  • Attest and maintain custody of all official City records (to include meeting minutes, ordinances, resolutions, agreements and deeds of City-owned property)
  • Coordinate Public Records Requests in compliance with the City’s Public Records Policy and Chapter 119, Florida Statutes
  • Coordinate appointments to City boards and committees and provide secretarial assistance
  • Attend, record, and prepare minutes for all Commission meetings, and provide the agenda information
  • Administer the publication of the City’s Code of Ordinances and all related supplements
  • Responsible for legal advertising of public hearings
  • Provide reception, telephone, and mail services for the administrative offices
  • Custodian of the City cemetery, Longwood Memorial Gardens
  • Designated Elections Official for City elections
