Information

Brian D. Sackett was born in November 1953 in Amsterdam, New York. He graduated from Johnstown High School in New York in 1971. He married Mary L. Stoppard in Niagara Falls, Ontario on June 5, 1976; has 3 daughters, Amanda, Lindsay and Lauren; has 3 grandchildren, Sydney, Cameron and Chloe. Commissioner Sackett has been a resident of Longwood since July 1989.

Commissioner Sackett attended Windham College in Putney, Vermont receiving a Bachelor of Science Special Education Degree, Suma Cum Laude in 1978. He received his Master's of Education-Mathematics and Science Degree, Suma Cum Laude from the University of Central Florida in 1994. Then, in 2000, he achieved the National Board Certification as Middle Childhood Generalist at the University of Central Florida.

Commissioner Sackett was Principal of Windham Elementary School in Vermont; teacher of Third and Fourth Grades at Pine Crest Elementary School in Sanford; teacher of Third and Fourth Grades at Wilson Elementary School in Sanford; and teacher of Fourth Grade, and at present, teacher of Fifth Grade at Woodlands Elementary School in Longwood.

Commissioner Sackett’s professional memberships include PTAs, School Advisory Committees of Wilson Elementary, Woodlands Elementary and Lake Mary High School, National Board of Certified Teachers (County President and now as State and National Liaison), Seminole Education Association and former Adjunct Professor for University of Central Florida.

Among Commissioner Sackett’s recognitions and awards are: Teacher of the Year numerous times; SCPS Foundation Grants in literature, Becky Bailey Discipline strategies and Science Strategies; Elected City Commissioner of Longwood, Florida from 2003 to the present; served as Deputy Mayor of Longwood in 2003; and elected Mayor in May 2008. Commissioner Sackett became an ordained minister in March of 2006.
