Commissioner Cortes took the oath of office on Friday, November 6, 2009.

Bob Cortes was born in Brooklyn, New York. When he was a child, his parents moved to their native Puerto Rico, where Bob was raised in Bayamon. He attended EDP College in Hato Rey from 1981 to 1985. Bob married his wife Virginia in 1984. They had three children, Robert Jr., Kylee and Randy. Robert Jr. passed away at a young age. Bob moved back to the United States in September 1985. In 1989, Bob moved to the Central Florida area from South Carolina.

Mr. Cortes is the founder and co-owner of Cortes Towing Service, established in 1989. He joined the Professional Wrecker Operators of Florida in 1990. Mr. Cortes was elected to the board and became the Region Director of this organization in 2005. He moved his business to Longwood in 1996 from Altamonte Springs. In 1997 Mr. Cortes moved into his current home in Longwood Plantation.

Mr. Cortes has been involved in community issues through his role as co-owner of Cortes Towing Service. In addition to his service to the Professional Wrecker Operators of Florida, Mr. Cortes also volunteers his time and equipment to the Seminole County Community Traffic Safety Team. Mr. Cortes is also the current Longwood Plantation Homeowners Association President, having become active in in 2007. Bob is an active member of St. Mary Magdalen Church. Mr. Cortes is fluent in both English and Spanish.
