Commissioner John C. Maingot was born in Trinidad, West Indies, and immigrated with his family to the United States in October 1985. He has been married to his wife, Beth, for thirty five (35) years, and has six daughters and two sons. Commissioner Maingot is the Owner of Island Pride Landscapes.
Commissioner Maingot has served as the District 1 City Commissioner for twelve (12) years, during which time he served as Mayor from 2006-2008; he was again was elected Mayor in November 2009 and servued until May 2011. In 2008, he was a finalist out of 411 Florida Cities for the Mayor of the Year from the Florida Cities of Excellence Awards. Commissioner Maingot serves on various Longwood and Seminole County Boards and Committees.
From 1985 to 1986, Commissioner Maingot was a Marketing Consultant (Organization and Tourism Development) for the North American Trinidad and Tobago Board of Tourism. Prior to that, Commissioner Maingot worked for over twenty-seven (27) years in the Aviation Industry in the Technical/ Marketing/Management areas with various airlines. He was also a Marketing and New Product Development Manager with Colgate Palmolive Eastern Caribbean. In previous years, several of Commissioner Maingot's landscaping clients were recognized as winners in the Parade of Homes in the Orange and Seminole County areas.
Commissioner Maingot attends the University of Florida for IFAS Annual State Licensing courses. He graduated from the University of the West Indies with a degree in Management Development and Marketing; and from Fatima College, Port of Spain (Oxford and Cambridge).
Commissioner Maingot has been very active in the community as a former Den Leader for the Boy Scouts of America, Co-Founder of both the Longwood National Night Out annual activity and Celebrate the Season winter celebration, Founder of Longwood Caroling Group (sharing the spirit and joy of the season at our Senior Centers and Hospital); and is a Member of the Central Florida Society for Historical Preservation. In addition, he is actively involved at the Church of Nativity as a Lector, Lay Ministry and the Men’s Club.
