Title: Director of Public Safety
Troy Hickson

Biography
On October 5, 2015, City Commissioners voted unanimously to appoint Troy K. Hickson as the City of Longwood’s Director of Public Safety. The Public Safety Director is responsible for the operation of the Police Department, Fire Service, Emergency Medical service, Emergency Management and Public Information.

After over 20 years of employment with the Longwood Police Department, Director Hickson was previously Police Chief since 2010, a Commander in patrol, traffic and special operations, a training coordinator, a traffic-homicide/criminal investigator and also supervised the school resource and K-9 divisions as well as elder services. Director Hickson also worked as the acting Longwood Fire Chief from September 2009 - January 2010.

Native to Central Florida, Troy’s 30 years of public service began while serving as a volunteer and paid Firefighter/Emergency Medical Technician and Police Officer for the City of Lake Mary from 1985-1992. Director Hickson earned an Associate in Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Seminole Community College, a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Public Administration from Barry University and completed FDLE's Chief Executive Seminar. However, his most esteemed accomplishments are that of a loving husband to his beautiful wife and loving father to his 3 awesome sons!

One of Director Hickson’s top priorities was to make the Police Department more transparent. He believes transparency promotes accountability and provides information for Citizens about how their Government works for them. Director Hickson instituted the City of Longwood’s inaugural Citizens on Patrol (COP) program with over 40 current members. COP volunteers are trained observers that increase the Police Department’s presence in the community.

Director Troy Hickson believes, “The strongest and most effective force we can partner with to solve our criminal and societal issues is our community faith-based organizations, neighborhood citizen groups, and local businesses!”
